Start-ups in the domestic energy sector appealed to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups for deregulation and investment procurement support for business demonstration.

On the 20th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Lee Young) held a ‘Meeting with Eco-Friendly and Energy Super Gap Startups’ at Tips Town, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and invited domestic start-ups in the eco-friendly and energy fields to listen to their difficulties.

This meeting was prepared to share industry and technology trends for startups selected in the eco-friendly and energy fields of the ‘Super Gap Startup 1000+ Project’, which the Ministry of SMEs and Startups has been promoting in earnest since this year, discover policies through listening to difficulties in the field, and improve regulations.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups is holding a relay meeting with startups in the 10 super-gap fields from this year to identify trends in new industries and resolve difficulties of startups.

At the event, 10 eco-friendly/energy start-ups ▲Terrablock ▲LDCarbon ▲Quantum Cat ▲Enlighten ▲ENITT ▲Difone ▲Livest ▲CGI ▲Wonkwang S&T ▲Intocore Technology participated and delivered their suggestions.

The main agenda delivered by the companies was support for attracting investment, deregulation against technology demonstration, and institutional improvement according to technological development.

In particular, startup companies that participated in the meeting complained that it is difficult to find additional investors as their sales have recently grown rapidly and they can no longer enjoy the benefits of the investment attraction support project of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. As the growth of the eco-friendly and energy industries is remarkable, they are calling for expansion of investment attraction policies to advance technology and develop new markets.

In addition, it was pointed out that it is difficult to demonstrate technology due to government regulations that cannot keep up with the pace of market development.

ENITT, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based energy efficiency company, said, “There are more government regulations related to energy efficiency than expected, so it is difficult to demonstrate technology in the field.”

Wonkwang N&S&T, a solar power construction and module recycling company, asked for efforts to improve the current system that is not suitable for the solar power recycling situation as the demand for module recycling increases as the size of the solar power market expands.

The explanation is that aluminum, copper, silver, silicon, etc. recycled from solar modules are not classified as raw materials, but are classified as waste under the current system, which is not well recognized in the field. In addition, according to the Law on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources, recycling must be done in a designated place, but due to the nature of the product, it is more efficient for solar modules to be disassembled on-site, and they requested improvement of the system.

Lim Jeong-wook, head of the Small and Medium Venture Business Department, said, “As the global climate crisis caused by global warming has recently intensified, the role of startups developing eco-friendly and energy-related technologies is expanding in the global market.”
